Teaching math in the right way by making it an interesting subject has been a challenge for the parents and teachers. Classroom math practices are quite dull and uninteresting. All those classroom worksheets will definitely take away the little enthusiasm, which is left in our children.

A child will learn any hard subject through the arena of practical experience. We have learned to tie shoelaces, cooking pancakes or driving not by simply reading the theory. It is through practical experience we learn everyday things. Math is also a part of everyday life. We will learn math easily if we connect it with our everyday life. Math activities can enhance our interest in the subject and improve our math skills.

Activity books, guides and practical applications for hands-on math are available in plenty in the market. All these help guide teachers and parents through many activities they can do with the help of hands-on resources. Here all the work has been completely done for the benefit of parents and teachers. They just have to follow the instructions. The internet is another treasure house of math resources. A simple internet search will lead you to the magic world of Base Ten Blocks, math games, fraction circles, Cuisennaire rods and many such things.

Some of the math activities, which can be done with your children, are mentioned below. You don’t need any extra requirements for these activities.

- You can teach your child counting by certain simple activities. Make them put some jellybeans or candy corns into a large clear jar. Ask the kids to guess the total number of candies they might think inside the jar. Then take out all the candy pieces and count to see whose guess was the closest. This will make your child learn counting.

- You can play a guessing game with your children using coins. You should give each child a specific kind of coin. Ask them questions like,”how many of these coins add up to a nickel?” When your child masters the answers, then ask harder questions. Help them to learn addition by asking questions like,”How many coins make up to thirty cents?”

- When you are traveling with your child make them understand the distance to travel from one place to another. Ask them to find out the distance between two towns with the help of a map. Also, make them calculate the time to travel a particular distance when two different speed limits are used. This can be the monster problem in your child’s math workbook. However, in the form of an activity solving this problem can be a real fun for your children.

- Cooking gives you immense options to make your child practice math. Show them how to measure the ingredients and make them do it. Also, ask those questions like, “how many quarter cups in one cup?” When you cut a pizza into slices, ask the kids to find out how many slices are present in one-half of the pizza. All these activities help your child learn measurement and fractions.

- Make them help you in your gardening. During this time, you can use their math skills to measure how tall the plants are. You can also make them measure the distance apart to plant a seed, with the help o f a ruler or a measuring rod.

- You can make your kids draw the diagram of their bedroom and ask them measure the length of the room.

All these activities are filled with fun and help your child learn math the right way.
